Audubon Park and Nature Institute

World Famous Daily Jazz Brunch at the Court of Two Sisters...is a sumptuous display of hot and cold dishes. Because they use only the freshest ingredients, the buffet's selections change according to season and time of day. In the morning, a typical selection of hot dishes includes made-to-order omelets, Eggs Benedict, sausage and bacon, grits and grillades, and shrimp or veggie pasta with a creamy Alfredo sauce. The afternoon's sampling includes Creole jambalaya, turtle soup, Duck a l'Orange, and Shrimp Etouffee.

The cold buffet is a creative sampling of boiled shrimp (and crawfish when in season) with your choice of traditional cocktail or Creole remoulade sauces, seafood and pasta salads, ceviche, marinated artichokes, pâtés, cheeses and a variety of fresh fruit. Also included are delicious desserts: pecan pie, chocolate mousse, homemade French vanilla ice cream, Bananas Foster and our famous bread pudding with whiskey sauce. As the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina draws near, The Historic New Orleans Collection will present a new exhibition charting the institution’s efforts to document the storm, its aftermath and the region’s recovery. Faced with the work of chronicling both unprecedented devastation and the city’s recovery, The Collection implemented two long-term institutional initiatives in early October 2005: an extensive oral history program focused on recording the experiences of first responders and a photography project intended to document the scale of the chaos throughout the city left in Katrina’s wake. Selections from these projects form the core of Katrina + 5: Documenting Disaster. Other items on exhibit include historical maps and materials exploring the history of tidal flooding and storm surge in New Orleans over the course of the past two centuries and a multimedia station featuring an interactive timeline and related resources. Katrina + 5 serves as a reminder of the history made since August 29, 2005, and The Collection’s ongoing efforts to record it.

The Historic New Orleans Collection Presents - Poydras Street Market, 1838–1938
June 15, 2010 - July 31, 2010

Once touted in the Daily Picayune as being 'the most handsome structure in our city,' the Poydras Street Market opened on July 4, 1838. Highly successful, the market later expanded toward the lake with the addition of the iron-constructed Pilié Market in 1867. However, by the turn of the 20th century, the Poydras Market's heyday had come to an end. Families that once embraced an urban lifestyle and obtained their daily necessities from the public market were moving away to newly created neighborhoods and suburbs accessible by recently installed electric streetcar lines. As 1932 drew to a close, the last sections of the Poydras Street Market were demolished, and this open-air complex, which had anchored a community for almost a century, faded into obscurity. Vintage images of the Poydras Market are among items now on display in the Williams Research Center's Reading Room as part of the exhibition Poydras Street Market, 1838–1932.

Women Artists in Louisiana, 1965–2010 marks the seventh collaborative exhibition between The Historic New Orleans Collection and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Opening Wednesday, March 17, at NOMA in City Park, the exhibition draws from the holdings of both museums and features roughly 40 works by more than 35 women artists who visited or resided in New Orleans from the cusp of postmodernism through today. Among the artists represented are Lynda Benglis, Ida Kohlmeyer, Mignon Faget, Angela Gregory, Jacqueline Humphries, Lin Emery and Eugenie “Ersy” Schwartz. Artworks include paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts.

The Historic New Orleans Collection and Le Petit Théâtre du Vieux Carré are proud to present Vieux Carré Matinées, a series of free films and tours celebrating Louisiana’s rich history and culture. Vieux Carré Matinées are now showing every Tuesday–Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The program opens with a brief tour of Le Petit Theatre, the nation’s oldest continuously operated little community theatre. Following the tour, patrons will have an opportunity to view one of 10 films, many of which were produced in part by The Collection. Each film addresses a different aspect of the region, including the Battle of New Orleans, Creole cooking, and visual artists of New Orleans. Both the tour and the films are free and open to the public.

Get fit with the “sistahs” as you exercise and dance your way to wellness. Classes are taught by professional dancer and choreographer Giselle Nakhid and other guest dancers. The program is directed by Jamilah Muhammad, a registered nurse and professional dancer, who handles all other aspects of programming, such as educational films, nutrition, and health and wellness. A nutritious meal is served after each class. Admission is free and open to the public. No dance experience required.

The Evensong Choir at Trinity Church has been singing choral Evensong for the past two years.  The service is intended to include full congregational participation in the singing of canticles, responses, psalms, hymns, as well as occasional anthems, with organ prelude and postlude. 

The Trinity Artist Series was awarded the Big Easy, Tribute to the Classical Arts Outstanding Contribution Award 2008, and the Mayor's Arts Award 2001, 2004 Best of the Best Heartbeat Award.

Every Monday from 6 pm to 7 pm, TAIZE in the Chapel with candlelight. Program directed by Albinas at the piano.

Albinas, Director of Music Ministries at Trinity Episcopal Church, started the Trinity Artist Series nearly 20 years ago, lasting approximately one hour.

Every Thursday at 6:30 pm Choral Evensong

The series is informal and free of charge,  handi-cap accessible with elevator if need be, and police security provided.

House of Blues New Orleans opened in 1994 and is located in the heart of the world–famous French Quarter. The walls of the restaurant and music hall are covered with a 298 pieces of folk art and the venue itself is home to the largest collection of folk art in the country. When visiting the House of Blues New Orleans, look for the crest–shaped plaque hung above the table in the second to the last booth in the restaurant. This was installed in December of 1994 in honor of Blues Legend, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. A portrait of Gatemouth also hangs in “his” booth. In keeping with tradition, the House of Blues New Orleans displays the 'Crazy Quilt' and keeps a metal box of mud from the Delta Mississippi underneath its stage.
